Victoria International Airport was closed due to a police operation

All commercial flights are suspended until further notice at Victoria International Airport (YYJ) while the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) conducts a police operation.

“We ask travelers not to go to the airport at this time and check the status of flights with their air carrier or on our website,” the air authority wrote. YYJ on his Twitter account.

At a press briefing at 5:30 pm, Corporal Andres Sanchez explained that police were called after 1:30 pm because of suspicious baggage at the departure level. Due to extreme caution, decided to suspend flights. An expert team of RCMP he was on his way from Vancouver to check the contents of the luggage.

We don’t know what’s really in this bag, explained Corporal Andres Sanchez. The person carrying the suspect’s luggage is being investigated to determine if criminal charges will be filed.

There is no danger to the publichowever, refers to a spokesperson for RCMP, Chris Manseau. Passengers should still avoid the areas for the next few hours.

Chris Manseau thinks specialists should arrive early in the evening and thinks the airport might most likely will reopen tonight.
