Although it is sad that Ms. Soyemi was injured in this interaction, I am satisfied that the response of the police at the scene was appropriate and consistent with their police training.London Police Chief Steve Williams said in a statement on Tuesday.

Ms Soyemi was left with a black eye and faced multiple charges after her confrontation with the two officers.

Last week, in a TikTok video watched thousands of times, Ms Soyemi, 36, said she was selling detox tea outside the mall White Oaks on May 10, when an officer grabbed him without explanation and another officer punched him.

Then, in a press release published on May 11, police provided their version of the facts.

According to police, they were responding to a call because Ms Soyemi was selling her tea at a property where she was evicted. He would have refused to leave despite the request made to him.

When the officer told Ms Soyemi that she was under arrest, she allegedly resisted, became aggressive and attacked an officer, the statement said.

According to Mr Williams, several independent witnesses witnessed the incident and shot the arrest.

An internal investigation concluded that the police did their job properly.

I would like to personally thank the citizens who provided assistance at the scene, as well as those who called 9-1-1 for additional police assistance. He added.

The matter is still before the courts and the London Police Service will not comment further. I continue to ask people to refrain from speculation or judgment until the facts of the case are presented in court.

Ms Soyemi is set to appear in court on Aug. 2. She was charged with failing to leave the scene when questioned, resisting arrest and assaulting a peace officer.

Ms Soyemi started a GoFundMe page to raise money for surgery to restore her sight, which was reported to have not healed after the incident.
