The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is investigating after a group of people placed manure and posters outside the gate of Prime Minister John Horgan’s constituency office in Langford, British Columbia.
According to a press release from RCMP
the incident occurred around 9 a.m. Wednesday.Police believe those responsible were activists in the ancient forest protection movement Save Old Growth.
In a statement posted on its website, the organization claimed this action and compared the Horgan government’s policies to fertilizer.
Zain Haq, one of the co-founders of the protest group, argued in an email that most residents wanted the government to ban logging of ancient forests, but that if the prime minister refuses to implement the will of the people, we can expect the people to engage in nonviolent direct action..
In a press release, the Minister of Public Security, Mike Farnworthdeclared for his part that if peaceful demonstrations are part of a democratic society, Property vandalism, preventing people from accessing services and harassing local businesses are deplorable behaviors..
Save Old Growth warns that other actions are planned from June 13.
