End of police operation in Pointe-à-la-Garde

An individual in crisis, barricaded alone inside a residence, kept police in suspense for several hours in Pointe-à-la-Garde, in Baie-des-Chaleurs.

The Sûreté du Québec confirms that the man is in control.

The man was taken to hospital to receive the necessary treatment for his condition. No one was injured in the operation.

The Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP) will review this file later to assess whether he will file lawsuits against the individual whose identity will not be made public at this time.

An intervention of some time

Police were called Wednesday night, just before 10 p.m., to intercept a man who was barricaded at a residence on Perron Boulevard.

The SQ it was later confirmed that the explosions, coming from this residence, were heard late Wednesday night.

However, police never officially indicated that the individual was armed. The police service only identified the individual as not organized.

The intervention took place near the Pointe-à-la-Garde motel. A security perimeter was established and houses near the area were evacuated for preventive purposes.

A command post was erected in the rest area, within the perimeter.

During the operation, police used a megaphone to address the individual they spoke to in English.

The police were talking at the same time.

Route 132 reopened

Route 132, which was closed for a distance of less than a kilometer between Chemin Saint-Antoine and Rue de l’Église, was reopened.

Traffic is currently fluctuating.

Morning classes at Père-Pacific primary school in Pointe-à-la-Croix were also suspended. However, the daycare service remained open.
