Two teens who planned to commit massacre at a Montreal high school were sentenced to 12 and 15 months probation. A 16-year-old teenager today, their primary target, has been revived by his recent hunting traumas in the United States.
Coming out of the courtroom at the Youth Chamber, Ludovic (fictitious name) couldn’t help but think of the shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, that took place this week.
” Me, I had the opportunity to still be there, at this moment, to talk to you. “
In the face of overwhelming police evidence, two of the four youths involved in the conspiracy decided to plead guilty to conspiracy charges of aggravated assault and death threats.
The Youth Chamber today imposed probation periods of 12 and 15 months in prison on two 16-year-olds who admitted planning a mass shooting.
Nine months have passed since the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) failed a plan to conduct a mass shooting at its secondary school in the Saint-Michel district. Ludovic was in post-traumatic shock.
The last few months have been very difficult psychologically. Just going to school is already painful. I was always in hypervigilance mode. I was always afraid to attack from behind. I was nervous just in the presence of people I didn’t know very wellconfession of teenager targeted shot in class.
Now 16, she says she regularly sees a psychologist to reconstruct her social skills. However, the road is winding.
It will be a stage of rebuilding myself. The question is how do I get back into my social circles. How do I manage my relationship with the person. Above all, it will lastHe added.
The police investigation began in the summer after investigators received information about four 15-year-olds who were planning to commit massacre, inspired by the 1999 Columbine shootings in the United States, which left 15 people were killed and 24 were injured at a secondary school.
Evidence showed that the group, seeking to arm itself, planned to start a fire to create a panic movement to randomly shoot the fleeing students.
The quartet’s plan failed by SPVM once the school year began.
On September 5, we received a call from the police because they had reason to believe there were threats against our son. My husband went to meet with the investigators who were with him. We were given the facts before us. It is shocking to think that people have given themselves the right to take our son from us by planning his murder.said Ludovic’s mother, still fascinated by the events.
Most of the evidence was exposed to the teenager’s parents. The thoughtful element is obvious, according to the target teenager’s mother.
It’s blood fat to see this whole plan, every minutehe added.
Private text messaging revealed that the group had bought anarchists book on how to start fires and make pipe bombs. In addition, they discussed the idea of buying acoustic devices to play loud music during their massacre by guns.
Ludovic’s father believes their son is alive because one of the four accomplices decided to confess. If not for this last minute denunciation, the worst would have happened.
He is alive because it failed. We are happy with the process. But we moved in with the parents there [à Uvalde] in an untrue situation. I have a TV in my office for my work. Every time it came to put pressure on me here [au cœur]. We evoke shockmentioned the father of the family.
The penalties are aimed at social rehabilitation
Me Mathieu Farazandeh, representing the two teenagers who pleaded guilty, said the penalties imposed respected the case law for similar crimes.
The lawyer assured that the two teenagers, who are now 16 years old, became aware of the scope of their actions. The risk of recurrence is minimal, he said.
In the circumstances here, there were regrets from my clients and an inquiry ensuedlawyer’s brief comment.
For the representative of the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions Me Joanie Trudel, she asserted that the awareness of the two fellow defendants opens the door to social rehabilitation.
We really want young people to do their responsibilities and fully realize the impact of their actions on victims.commented Mr. Trudel.
Before receiving their sentence, the two young men did not want to face the Youth Division or the victim they were targeting.
As for the other two alleged accomplices, they will be brought to trial next October.
