Michaël Chicoine’s lawyer, who is accused of killing his two children in Wendake in October 2020, wants to withdraw the case, which could lead to a delay.
Me Pierre Gagnon will present a request for this effect next week, at the Quebec City courthouse.
The case was placed on the Superior Court list on May 31, before Judge François Huot.
Me Gagnon confirmed to Radio-Canada his desire not to represent the 31-year-old accused because of a customer disagreement.
The criminal lawyer did not specify the reasons for his departure, but nevertheless indicated that his decision did not come after Chicoine’s last storm pass in Court.
Me Gagnon, who has offices in Chicoutimi, is the attorney for Carl Girouard, who was just declared guilty for saber attacks in Old Quebec.
Delays?
The trial of Michaël Chicoine is set for September, but the change of attorney could delay the start.
Judge Huot has already denied a lawyer withdrawing from a murder case so as not to delay the start of the trial. The lawyer finally resigned at the Bar in the middle of the courtroom.
Me Gagnon made sure he didn’t find himself in the same situation.
Michaël Chicoine faces two counts of second -degree murder, his son Olivier, 5, and his younger brother, Alex, 2.
