Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench Judge Johnna Kubik told Chris Carbert, one of four defendants in the attempted murder of police officers during protests in Coutts, Alberta, that he would not receive bail.
Chris Carbert appeared via video in court in Lethbridge to hear the decision on his bail application on Friday. Judge Johnna Kubik told him he denied his request. However, he did not give his reasons, as they were protected by the publication ban.
Chris Carbert, Jerry Morin, Christopher Lysak and Anthony Olienick have been accused of attempting to kill Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officers during protests against health measures that led to the blockade of Coutts in February, on the border of Canada-US.
In March, the court denied bail to Christopher Lysak. Two others, Anthony Olienick and Jerry Morin, were also detained pending a response to their request to be released on bail.
The four co -defendants, all in their 40s, will be returned to court on June 13. The Crown had already indicated, a few weeks ago, its intention to try them together.
