Prince Albert police are investigating two homicides that occurred on the same day Saturday in central Saskatchewan city.
Early Saturday morning, a 32-year-old man was killed, police reported Sunday.
That same night, just before 11:30 pm, officers responded to a gun complaint in the 100 block of River Street West. They found a 47-year-old man there who sustained serious injuries.
He was taken to Victoria Hospital where he died.
On Sunday morning, the River Street West block was blocked for investigation. The Criminal Investigations Division and Forensic Identification Unit were at the scene.
The police involved in the investigation had to provide vacation planned to respond to the emergency, Prince Albert’s police note.
Every loss due to violence is a tragedy that cannot be justified or explainedPolice Chief Jonathan Bergen said in a statement Sunday.
He also admitted that the community is struggling with increasing gun violence, addiction, poverty, mental health issues and calls associated with interpersonal violence.
No arrests have been made in connection with the deaths, and police are asking anyone with information to call 306-953-4222 or Crime Stoppers.
