One person was found dead by Montreal firefighters Monday morning in an apartment building in the Côte-des-Neiges district where a fire broke out.
As of early morning, authorities have yet to determine the gender or the man’s identity. At this time, the fire was extinguished.
The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) inherited the investigation, as is the case when someone dies in a fire.
Firefighters received an alert from the Montreal Fire Department (SSIM) just before 3 a.m. Once they arrived at the building on Gatineau Street, near the Université de Montréal campus, they launched their operations to quickly control the fire.
By dawn, the exact cause of the fire was not yet known. However, the SPVM
reported that it seems unlikely that he was of criminal origin.Source: Radio-Canada
