A cross-examination sows doubt in the trial for the murder of Lise Danais

Monday’s hearing shows that during the investigation into the murder of Lise Danais, relatives of the latter told Detective Sergeant Paul David Barber that he was being sexually harassed by one of his colleagues and that he was afraid to him.

Lise Danais died shortly after being found in critical condition at her home on March 26, 2019. Charges of first-degree murder were filed against a teenager in July 2019.

The family members of Ms. Danais has maintained since January that the latter is innocent.

He cannot be appointed under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Moreover, CBC/Radio-Canada did not disclose certain details of the case so as not to identify this minor.

As part of Mr. cross-examination. Barber, defense attorney Matt Gould showed jurors a text message sent by Lise Danais to one of her relatives in which she explained that she was a victim of sexual harassment.

In a message dated May 12, 2018, about a year before his murder, he explained that he feared for his life. He warns his interlocutor that if something bad happens to him, it is because of his companion.

At least two of her relatives told investigators of Lise Danais ’apprehension vis-à-vis this colleague, in interviews in 2019. At the time, Mr. Barber the police to investigate. this year, he indicated in his cross-examination.

In 2019, the accused also told police that Ms. Danais that he was afraid of his companion, at least three months before his death. This was revealed in an interview with the teenager recorded on March 26, 2019 and presented to the jury on Monday morning.

The accused did not perform resuscitation maneuvers

In an interview also in March 2019, the accused explained that he went shopping and then went to the residence of Ms. Danais.
