Local police said two schools in the York Region were put on lockdown Monday morning following a threat that allegedly came from Aurora, Ont.
Police did not specify which schools it was.
York Regional Police investigators say they have received information around 10:45 am about a video in which a teenager threatened – holding what looked like a gun.
Police did not specify the type of threat.
The incident came amid escalating tension around the schools. A gunman entered an elementary school classroom in Texas and killed 19 children and two teachers last week.
In addition, a man holding an air gun was shot near a school in Toronto on Thursday.
Two teens were arrested in Aurora, police said. Their identity will not be revealed because of their age. At this point, it is not known whether any cases have been filed. Officers said they quickly found the teenagers, and upon inspection found that they were counterfeit weapons.
Both schools have been placed in safe custody pending investigation, according to police.
