Extensive police operation against arms trafficking in Montreal

An extensive police operation against gun trafficking and associated street gangs took place Wednesday morning in Montreal and the South Shore.

More than 80 police from the combined firearms group are conducting searches in Montreal, but also in Longueuil, Delson and Saint-Amable.

Four men, aged 24 to 27, were arrested and are due to appear at Longueuil courthouse on Wednesday afternoon.

Right now we’re talking about four arrests, we’ll see in the day if other arrests can happensaid Benoît Richard, of the Sûreté du Québec.

They were charged with possession of prohibited firearms and possession and transfer of firearms as part of the firearms trafficking network.

The operation is part of CENTAURE’s provincial strategy, which aims to neutralize firearms trafficking and other criminal activity in Quebec.
