Sûreté du Québec (SQ) divers recovered the body of a man Wednesday morning from the waters of the Saint-Charles River, the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) announced.

This discovery came as police have been combing the river since Sunday to find two people who had drowned in the Saint-Charles River.

The body was found about 400 meters from the last spot where the two students were found, according to David Pelletier, spokesman for SPVQ.

All this leads to the belief that it is one of the two missing people, but this has not been confirmed by the authorities so far. An autopsy needs to be performed on the body to determine its identity.

The body of the missing student has not yet been found.

Patrol boats, divers, drones and the canine squad have already been deployed to the scene.

Placed a command post near the river. SQ assigned personnel to support the Quebec City Police Service in crossing the river using a comb with fine teeth.

More details to come …
