The trial of the young man accused of the murder of Franco-Manitoban Lise Danais continues in a Winnipeg court. On Thursday, the court heard testimony from the victim’s ex -girlfriend Lorne Vandersteen.
Lise Danais died on March 26, 2019 shortly after being found in critical condition at her home. First -degree murder charges were filed against a teenager in July of that year.
From 2017 to 2019, Ms. Danais had an on-and-off romantic relationship with Lorne Vandersteen. They both worked in the same building.
During his testimony before the court, Mr. Vandersteen said he knew the accused, whom he described as a very helpful person with regard to Lise Danais.
He said he was with Lise Danais and the accused at his residence the day before the murder, March 25, 2019, to watch a hockey game on television.
From her testimony and the exchange of text messages filed as evidence, it appears that their relationship was unstable due to Lise Danais ’insecurity about Mr. Danais’ previous relationships. Vandersteen.
One day before his death, Ms. told him. Danais by text that he was happy with their reconciliation and their evening.
Lise Danais is afraid of other men
During the cross-examination, the defense focused on exchanges between Lise Danais and Lorne Vandersteen about a man working in the victim’s building.
In several messages, Lise Danais expressed concerns about this man’s behavior that, she said, has been harassing her since 2018.
He said he had nightmares so he was scared. In February 2019, Mr. Vandersteen proposed that he install surveillance cameras in his home to protect himself.
Three days before the death of Ms. Danais, Mr. sent him. Vandersteen of another message with advertisements to again offer him to give himself home surveillance cameras.
Madame Danais had just discovered human footprints in her yard. Several times his dog behaved strangely, as if there was an alien presence on the property.
Thursday morning, the owner and former employee of the dog daycare center Happy Tails Pet Resort & Spa also heard in court. Used by Ms. Danais provides this daycare services for her animal.
The accused went there with the dog on the morning of Mrs. Danais.
The two witnesses said they were a little surprised to see him but did not notice anything abnormal that morning. There was no trace of blood on the animal.
The accused in the murder of Lise Danais cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Moreover, Radio-Canada did not disclose certain details of the case so as not to disclose the identity of this minor.
The family members of Ms. Danais has maintained since January that the latter is innocent.
