Thirteen people sustained minor injuries Thursday afternoon following an ammonia leak near the Killarney Community Center in Vancouver.
The community center and the nearby high school have been evacuated, confirmed Captain Matt Trudeau of the Vancouver Fire Department.
The city’s Parks Commission said the adjacent park was also closed.
A team of hazardous materials specialists arrived on the scene to assess the situation. It appears that the leak was caused by a pressure release issue.
Those with minor injuries reported having a sore throat and itchy eyes.
Thursday, at the end of the afternoon, the installations no longer presented any danger and reopened to the public.
Security is our main concern right now. The next steps are to work together Technical Safety BC [l’organisme de sécurité technique provincial] to conduct a full investigation into what happenedwrote the Vancouver Parks Commission in a tweet.
