As we go out to enjoy the outdoors, it is important to know how to protect yourself against ticks.
For some prevention tips, we welcome Kateryn Rochon, associate professor in the entomology department at the University of Manitoba.
The latter specified that rain had no significant effect on the number of ticks, even if the humidity in the air was favorable to them.
According to Kateryn Rochon, ticks are not dangerous, although they can be infected with pathogenic bacteria or viruses.
In particular, blacklegged ticks can transmit diseases such as Lyme.
The professor at the University of Manitoba suggests that we can find this type of tick in Saskatchewan because of migratory birds.
” We have not yet found a local population of these ticks. But, we must still remain vigilant, because we see them every year. “
