The Prince Albert Service is receiving help from other police forces to combat rising crime in the city.
Between May 26 and June 2, police responded to 1,210 calls for service, representing an increase of more than 11% compared to the same period in 2021.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety, police services in Regina and Saskatoon will assist their counterparts in Prince Albert in handling incidents of gun and gun violence.
The Prince Albert Police Service can also count on the support of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the provincial government.
Prince Albert Police Chief Jonathan Bergen said help was coming at an important time.
Prince Albert had a high number of violent incidents last week, including two homicides that occurred on May 28.
” Our community is going through difficult times. “
The volume of crime and its impact on our resources has a huge impact on the safety of our residents, Mr. Bergen said. We are grateful to our partners for this collaboration, which will help our community.
This support is under the mandate of the Crime Reduction Team (CRT), which aims to share resources between communities and deploy police officers in areas of the province that are experiencing rising crime.
Minister of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety Christine Tell is proud of the help this group provides to the city of Prince Albert.
