Everything indicates that the three pre-candidates for the presidency of Athletic will pass the cut of the guarantees to acquire the condition of candidates. Throughout today, the typical delivery of the boxes with the signatures required to continue in the red and white electoral race will be staged in the outskirts of Ibaigane. Iñaki Arechabaleta, Ricardo Barkala and Jon Uriarte take it for granted that they will overcome this first.
“I have news: goal accomplished,” the latter commented yesterday on his working group’s twitter account. The businessman from Bilbao admitted that reaching the necessary 2,016 signatures (not 1,206 as we mistakenly published yesterday on the cover of our paper edition) was “a bureaucratic process that represented a great challenge and above all a titanic effort”. There are those who say, however, that Uriarte had sufficient endorsements before even starting up his accountant. Things and piques typical of the elections.
From this candidacy, by the way, it was proposed a week ago to achieve a kind of consensus to agree on the renewal of Capa, but there has been no more news of him in this regard. Arechabaleta, on the other hand, has made it clear that he is working on a contract for two years plus objectives so that the pitcher defender signs his continuity and Barkala understands that this type of issue is a matter for his future technical director and coach. With the name of Marcelino in the chamber it is evident that since this last candidacy nothing will be signed in advance regarding the future of Capa.
Own names
Arechabaleta, by the way, took advantage of this last day prior to the presentation of the signatures to publicize new components of his electoral list. To the already well-known names of Marta Areizaga, Amaia Elgezabal, Iñaki Goirizelaia, Enrique Asla and Mario Fernández were added yesterday those of Libe Txarterina, Eduardo Ranero, Iñaki Berriozabal, Aritz Muguerza and Alberto Uriarte.
Former referee Urizar Azpitarte and José Antonio Nielfa, the Otxoa, also gave their endorsement and even Radio Bilbao made it known that Ander Herrera, who apparently will not continue at PSG, also gave his signature to the candidacy of the Bilbao executive.
Barkala, for his part, continued throughout this day prior to the delivery of signatures with his tour of different locations to publicize his project. Yesterday there was no major news regarding this candidate’s campaign other than his presence at the Llodio culture house.
Once the signatures have been passed, it is to be assumed that both this candidate and his rivals in the struggle to reach Ibaigane’s seat will present all of the components of his party, include possible electoral debates in their agenda, specify their projects for the different areas of Athletic and, above all, give the names of the professionals chosen to train the first team and direct Lezama, among others.
