Members of the London community gathered on Saturday afternoon to mark the official opening of a gymnasium dedicated to the memory of four members of the Afzaal family who died in a car attack last year -ram.
The family, who became victims of hate crime on June 6, 2021, was commemorated at the opening of a sports center bordering a mosque and a youth center. This community space is a dream for Salman Afzaal, who hopes to create more recreational spaces for young people in London’s Muslim community.
My brother and sister left us, but I did something for their honor, explained Saboor Khan, the close friend of the deceased. He explained that Mr. Afzaal said that the children of the community need not only spiritual places, but also sports and social spaces.
” We recognize that hatred exists, now is the time to act. “
A march to fight Islamophobia, organized by friends of young victim Yumna Afzaal, will take place on Sunday. Political representatives, including Ed Holder, the Mayor of London, will attend the event.
I cried tears following the attackrecollection of the latter.
On Monday, the City of London will also unveil a garden dedicated to the memory of the Afzaal family. The garden land, which was at the site of the attack, was donated by a property developer.
Mr. added. Holder that this tragedy will be part of teaching projects in London schools, to further sensitize young people in the region. The City of London has also created permanent jobs, including the role of director in the anti-racism and anti-oppression department and an adviser for Indigenous relations.
