With driver’s license suspensions and heavy fines, four drivers will pay dearly for their speed over the weekend on the highways of the Quebec region.
The most daring was a 37-year-old motorcyclist traveling on the Laurentian North highway on Sunday. He was stopped by patrol officers of the Sûreté du Québec as he was traveling at a speed of 156 km/h in a 70 zone, in the Boulevard Hamel sector. When the offense was noticed, police fined him $ 1,621 as well as 18 demerit points. His license was suspended.
Another motorist also ignored the 70 km/h speed restriction. On June 6, around 1:45 am, a 23-year-old woman from Quebec City traveled at a speed of 121 km/h in the 70 km/h zone on the Laurentian North highway, near Hamel Boulevard. He received a statement of offense for $ 817 in addition to accumulating 10 demerit points. His driver’s license was suspended for 7 days.
For the second time
On June 3, a 25-year-old young man thought it best to travel at a speed of 160 km/h on the Laurentian North highway, near the Atrium exit. In his case, because this was the second time for the same thing, he saw his license revoked within 30 days in addition to a $ 1,096 fine and accumulated 10 demerit points.
The next day, June 4 around 12:45 am, another 20-year-old driver from Quebec City was caught at a speed of 168 km/h in the 100 km/h zone on Highway 20 near Lévis. He received a statement of offense in the amount of $ 1,309 in addition to accumulating 14 demerit points.
