New charge in Faro, Yukon shooting

A man has been charged with multiple offenses surrounding the possession and sale of firearms in connection with the shooting in the village of Faro in October 2021.

According to the police investigation, Roy Patrick McGivern, 56, handed the gun to Ralph Bernard Shaw, who was charged with first degree murder, attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Ralph Shaw’s ex -wife, Saenduean Honchaiyaphum, and a former city councilor, Patrick McCracken, were both shot and killed on October 26, 2021, and another Faro resident was seriously injured.

“Police do not believe Roy McGiven knew the shootings would take place when he allegedly gave the gun to Ralph Shaw,” read a statement from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in the Yukon.

Rory Patrick McGivern was charged with eight offenses, including unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a load of restricted firearms, trafficking in firearms and trafficking in ammunition and unauthorized transfer of a firearm.

The new defendant was arrested and released under conditions prior to his appearance on July 6.
