A fisherman from Jonquière drowned near Sainte-Rose-du-Nord

A Jonquiérois in his sixties died Monday at the end of the day after falling into the water while fishing in the Sainte-Rose-du-Nord sector.

According to initial indications given by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), he was not wearing a life jacket.

The sexagenarian found himself in Grand lac Saint-Germains following an imbalance in his boat, which however did not completely capsize. Another fisherman with him also fell into the water, but he was able to make the shore again by his own means.

The help call was received around 4 p.m.

Police and firefighters were dispatched to the scene and, around 5:30 p.m., firefighters in their Zodiac recovered the man. An ambulance took him to a hospital in critical condition and sadly the 60 -year -old man passed away that night.confirmed Hélène St-Pierre, spokeswoman for SQ.

Grand lac Saint-Germain is located a few kilometers north of Route 172.

There is an investigator as well as a member of the Forensic Identification Service assigned to the filehe continued.

This is the second drowning that has occurred in several weeks in Saguenay. A 34-year-old woman drowned while paddling on a board in the Laterrière area on May 19. She was not wearing the correct flotation jacket, it was later clarified.
