Three men were arrested and charged with carjacking

Three men were arrested and face multiple charges after a series of carjacking events in Oakville, a Toronto suburb.

The three carjacking actions occurred on May 27, May 30 and June 3, according to a Halton Regional Police statement.

The first happened to Oakville Entertainment Centerlocated at 2081 Winston Park Drive, the second to the strip mall Crossing the Dorval at 200 North Service Road West, and the third at a strip mall located at 525 Iroquois Shore Road. According to police, the three accused targeted Range Rover vehicles in parking lots.

Police said they arrested three men near Sherway Gardens in Etobicoke on June 6. They were riding in a vehicle and appeared to be preparing to hijack another Range Rover, they said.

A 22-year-old man from Welland, Ont., Faces robbery charges related to three acts of carjacking, as well as an attempted robbery for the June 6. A 21-year-old man in North York was charged in connection with thefts on May 27 and 30 and June 6. A 21-year-old man in Toronto was charged with robbery in connection with the June 6 incident.

All three defendants were taken into custody pending the bail hearing, police said.

A multi-jurisdictional task force was created to combat the rise of carjacking in the Greater Toronto Area.

The problem caught national attention last month when Maple Leafs star Mitch Marner was the victim of a carjacking outside a Toronto movie theater.
