The trial of the young man accused of killing Lise Danais continued in Winnipeg court on Tuesday when jurors heard that a pathologist presented the autopsy report on the victim’s death on March 26. 2019.
The Medical Examiner and Assistant Professor in the Department of Forensic Medicine at the University of Manitoba, Dr. John Younes, testified for the Crown.
He said that Ms. Danais, 51, was lying in bed at his residence in Winnipeg’s Southdale neighborhood when he was hit in the head on the left side 5 or 6 times by a baseball bat, crowbar or other long blunt object.
These beatings caused bleeding in the brain and bones, which would lead to his death, according to Dr. Younes. He insists his death must have happened minutes after he was hit.
When paramedics arrived, he was less than 4 hours dead, according to Dr Younes.
According to the medical examiner, Ms. Danais also broke her arm and finger as she allegedly raised her hands and arms in self -defense.
He did not notice any trace of sexual assault on Ms.’s body. Danais, even testing to this effect was done.
The child accused in this case was not named because he was a minor at the time.
The victim’s family maintains that the young man accused of this alleged murder is innocent and would rather be the fault of a third party.
A detective examines the alibi of a coworker
Since 2018, Lise Danais has said she was harassed by a co-worker, according to messages she sent to her relatives and presented during the trial.
On Tuesday afternoon, police officer Michael Kemneth testified responsible for investigating the alibi of this co-worker.
Investigator Kemneth confirmed that the man in question entered his workplace at 9:04 am, according to his key card, and he left the area at 5:49 pm Shortly before noon, he rested outside. . The videos were shown to the jurors.
Mr. Kemneth indicates that his clothes are the same at all his entrances and exits. Only one door can be used and secured by a magnetic card. He maintains that the other doors, when crossed, sound an alarm.
According to him, it was impossible for this man to leave his job incognito, go to Mrs. Danais ’residence, be killed, do laundry, change clothes and return to work.
Police were called to Lise Danais’ home at 10:45 a.m. on the day of the murder.
During Michael Kemneth’s cross-examination, the defense indicated that the murder may have been committed by this individual before 9 a.m.
He also pointed out that the police only focused on the movements of this man from nine o’clock in the morning until night and would not have talked about what happened then.
Police had earlier told jurors that the gentleman’s wife had confirmed that he was with her. However, the two people do not sleep in the same room.
Si Ms. Danais who was injured is scheduled to return to the office on March 25, 2019.
Detective Kemneth also said on cross-examination that this co-worker was never considered a suspect, but instead an interested person. He added that the harassment alleged by those close to Ms. Danais.
