Punjab police say they have arrested eight people in connection with the murder of rapper Sidhu Moose Wala, who rose to prominence in Brampton, Ontario.
The suspects were taken into custody for providing logistical support, realizing reconnaissance and continuity to shooterspolice said in a statement Tuesday.
Police also said they identified four involved in the shooting. They are still free.
Sidhu Moose None – real name is Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu – 28, was shot on May 29 in Mansa, Punjab (New window). At the time, local police said the murder was most likely the result of a gang rivalry.
According to police, one of those arrested was watching the rapper pretend to be a fan and took a selfie with the artist minutes before killing him.
The suspect also allegedly relayed reports that the rapper was unaccompanied by his security personnel and aboard an unarmed vehicle, police said.
Other people arrested were accused of watching the actor, who assembled a group of shooters, provided a vehicle for the shooters and gave them a hideout.
Joint efforts are being made to arrest the identified shooters and others accused of involvement in this crime.can we read in the police statement.
The rapper rose to fame in Canada
Sidhu Moose Wala was born in Moosa, a village in the Mansa district of Punjab, India in 1993. After graduating with a degree in electrical engineering in 2016, he moved to Brampton, Ontario.
He starred in the Punjabi language rap scene after moving to Canada. He has been exhausted in Winnipeg and Toronto, and has also become an iconic figure in Surrey, British Columbia, home of Canada’s second largest population in South Asia. Several hundred people gathered in Surrey for a vigil after his death.
