Peel Region police said they have begun “terrorism proceedings” against the 24-year-old man who faces multiple charges in connection with the attack on a mosque in Mississauga in March.
The Deputy Director of the Public Prosecution Service of Canada and the Assistant Deputy Attorney General of the Ministry of Attorney General [de l’Ontario] agreed to start terrorism proceedings against Mohammad Moiz Omarwill we read in the press release published on Wednesday.
Police said the cases facing Mohammad Moiz Omar are tantamount to acts of terrorism under Canada’s Criminal Code.
Investigators say that on March 19, Mohammad Moiz Omar entered the Dar Al-Tawheed Islamic Center in Mississauga and sprayed cayenne pepper in the direction of people there while branding a shovel.

Any attempt to endanger the safety of our community will be resisted in all efforts to bring those responsible to justice.

Armed Assault x2
Administration of a toxic substance with intent to endanger life
Carrying a weapon for a dangerous purpose
Pronouncing threats to cause death or bodily injury
Carrying a concealed weapon
Nonsense in the possession of religion
