I think it is unacceptable that the lawyer accusing the taxpayer is better paid than the lawyer defending him, explains the president of the Eastern Townships Federation of Legal Aid Lawyers, Me Lisanne Fabi. You know, legal aid is an important cog in the justice system, we work in all areas of law, we represent a vulnerable client.

The lawyers of this federation are not the only ones to make this request, as the defense lawyers in private practice aim to demonstrate next week. They will also conduct pressure tactics in court.

This decision was taken following a review of the Court’s report on the reform of the legal aid tariff system.

The members of the Task Force (…) therefore considered that a massive reinvestment in terms of legal aid tariffs was necessary to conform to current practice and the real workload required by the private lawyer. in practice.cited Corte’s report.

Access to justice requires that litigants can have access to minimally prepared lawyers, because otherwise, it is not the lawyers who suffer, it is the litigants.believes the defense attorney, Me Félix-Antoine Doyon.

I Félix Antoine Doyon represent Michée Roy, who was acquitted of the murder of her son in Sherbrooke.

Me Doyon had to sue the Quebec Government for compensation, in order to prepare his client’s defense. The case is in the Court of Appeal.

Not only has Mr. Roy suffered the injustice of legal aid tariffs, it is estimated that hundreds of people in Quebec suffer from this injustice.argues Me Doyon.
