The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) organized this weekend an initial awareness operation for all-terrain vehicle (ATV) users in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. Officers checked license plates, licenses and helmets, among other things.
Last year, 27 fatal collisions involving ATVs occurred in the province, in the territory of the Sûreté du Québec, including two at the MRC Domaine-du-Roy. Through this type of operation, SQ hopes to prevent accidents.
We were at the intersection, we were making sure the quad riders were in ordermentioned the recreational tourism coordinator of the Sûreté du Québec, Carl Soucy.
Failure to comply with traffic signs, reckless behavior and driving while with an alcohol disability were the leading causes of death according to Carl Soucy.
We are very focused on wearing the helmet, added the provincial agent of the Quebec Federation of Quad Clubs, Alain Bégin. As far as children are concerned, we have no tolerance on that.
The maximum speed allowed in an all-terrain vehicle is 50 km/h, unless signs indicate a lower speed limit.
Police monitor quad riders, but also conduct awareness -raising interventions.
We want people to know we are thereadded Mr. Soucy, also informing that it will not be the only operation of its kind in the region.
Warnings and guilt statements were issued while the Radio-Canada team was on the tracks.
