The violent weekend left one dead and seven injured in Winnipeg

The Winnipeg Police Service is investigating one homicide, two shootings and five stabbings over the weekend, according to a statement.

On Sunday, the presence of a seriously injured man in an apartment building on Broadway Avenue, near Young Street, was reported to police. The 24-year-old man was taken to hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries. The homicide unit’s investigation is ongoing.

That same day, about 5:30 am, police were contacted about a man with gunshot wounds near the intersection of Sherbrook Street and Portage Avenue. The 20-year-old man said he was injured in the lower body while riding in his vehicle. No arrests were made.

Early Monday morning, police were contacted about another victim of the shooting. A 16-year-old boy with a bullet wound to the upper body was taken to hospital in serious condition. Since then, the victim’s condition has stabilized.

Numerous stabbings have been reported

Friday night, police found a 36-year-old man stabbed near the intersection of Flora Avenue and Andrews Street. A 22-year-old woman from Winnipeg was arrested.

On Saturday, a 21-year-old man was stabbed and taken to a hospital in critical condition. Two other victims in their twenties were found to have minor injuries.

At ages 18 and 17, the two suspects were located near Alexander Avenue and detained.

On the same day, two suspects sprayed pepper spray on the back door of a residence on Burrows Avenue, forcibly evicting a resident. When outside, this man was stabbed in the upper and lower body. The suspects fled while walking.

Police arrived and provided emergency medical treatment. The victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Police have not yet determined whether the victim and the suspects have known each other before.
