Assault on Cléricy: the accused has several antecedents

Philippe Leclerc, who was charged among other things with aggravated assault after a violent attack that took place last Friday morning on the way to Aiguebelle, in the Cléricy sector in Rouyn-Noranda, will remain detained until Thursday.

The 29-year-old Rouynoradian appeared by phone on Tuesday morning. Some people in the courtroom were visibly relieved.

The Crown opposes his release. His bail hearing is set for Thursday.

A long roadmap

Philippe Leclerc has a long track record in legal matters. He has previously been convicted for possession of narcotics, dangerous driving and driving while prohibited.

He also faces threatening charges in January. Conditions of his release included not having a weapon.

However, on June 9, he allegedly issued death threats against a woman, according to information filed in court. Then the next day, he allegedly attacked an old man in his 60s with an unknown weapon.

The victim remains in critical condition in hospital.

Philippe Leclerc faces charges of aggravated assault, carrying weapons for a dangerous purpose and violation of conditions.
