Normand Dagenais ’lawyer filed a motion at the Rimouski courthouse to have a fine to be paid by his client since he was convicted of fraud at the Cooperative des consommateurs de Rimouski in 2018 which was canceled. .

In 2019, the Court of Appeal reduced Normand Dagenais ’prison sentence from 42 to 24 months and ordered to reduce the fine he received from $ 710,000 to $ 28,555.

He had to pay everything off within 36 months.

However, in December 2019, Normand Dagenais quit the construction industry due to illness. A year later, he was declared disabled by his doctor; so he had to stop working.

Because the judge reduced the fine, the defendant reimbursed only $ 2,000 of the total amount of $ 28,555.

Mr. Dagenais’ attorney, Mr.e Alain Dumas informed in his request to the judge that because his client was declared invalid, he could not pay the full amount requested.

However, he believes it is unfair for his client to serve one year in detention if he cannot pay his fine.

Normand Dagenais is willing to pay as much as $ 75 per month as much as possible.

The motion will be heard on Aug. 11 at the Rimouski courthouse.
