A man shot by a police officer in Portage la Prairie has been hospitalized

A 27-year-old man from Winnipeg was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. He was shot Wednesday morning in an incident involving the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Manitoba.

The facts occurred around 4 am when a man entered a business in Portage la Prairie, about 80 kilometers from Winnipeg, a press release from RCMP.

The man fled in a car and was soon spotted by a patrol car on the Trans-Canada Highway.

The suspect then boarded the police vehicle several times, attempting to pull him off the road.

Police fired a gun during the incident, the RCMP.

The man was soon arrested and taken to hospital. The police sustained minor injuries.

The unidentified suspect has been charged with attempted murder.

The Manitoba Independent Investigation Unit was notified of the incident.
