Rebound in Toronto courthouse: The Crown announced in a procedural appearance that Peter Nygard is facing 11 new cases regarding two new complainants.
Peter Nygard was not present for the hearing Wednesday afternoon. The absence of the 80 -year -old individual was not explained.
Crown prosecutor Neville Golwalla only said the prisoner refused to leave his cell to go to the videoconference room.
The justice of the peace in the Ontario Court of Justice suggested that the octogenarian may be ill.
Mr. Golwalla also did not specify the type of new cases Nygard faces, nor did he list them.
Peter Nygard already faces nine charges of sexual assault and forced confinement, in Ontario, for alleged acts dating back twenty years at his Toronto fashion studio.
The former businessman also faces justice in Quebec and the United States.
Peter Nygard will appear again on June 29 via videoconference from his Toronto jail.
The publication ban prevents us from saying more in this case, including about the two new complainants.
The identities of all alleged Manitoban victims are protected under this ban. Peter Nygard was further prohibited from contacting them, according to the court order.
Peter Nygard has been incarcerated at the Toronto South Detention Center since late October 2021.
He was previously incarcerated in Manitoba on similar cases in California and New York State. He was transferred to Ontario at the request of Toronto police.
In Ontario, a justice of the peace in January refused to release him on bail pending trial, but his reasons are subject to the same publication ban as the Crown’s positions and the defense on the subject.
A judge of the Queen’s Bench Court of Manitoba also refused to release him on bail before he was transferred to Ontario.
