A fire broke out Wednesday afternoon in a duplex in Rouyn-Noranda.
Exposed flames and a plume of smoke were spotted when firefighters arrived at the building located on Iberville Street East. The fire quickly spread above.
At the time of the deployment of their workers, the building had been evacuated and one person had already been transported to the hospital center. However, his condition is unknown.
Stéphane Royer, director of the Rouyn-Noranda fire department, said 25 firefighters were mobilized. He said the building was a total loss.
Red Cross help was requested for someone who was cared for and needed to be relocated, according to Mr. Royer.
Around 6 p.m., the fire was deemed to be under control by firefighters who remained in the area to ensure that no second fire remained.
