From January to May of this year, the Service de police de la Ville de Québec (SPVQ) issued nearly 3,979 guilt statements, compared to 6,080 for the same months in 2021.

For several years, the City has been working to reduce speed limits in some sectors and launched several awareness campaigns. According to SPVQthe efforts made are beginning to bear fruit.

It is not just the duty of the police to come forward and take action, to tell people to slow down. Yes, this is part of our mandate. […] It is a collective effort, everyone must do their part.explanation by Marie-Pierre Rivard, spokeswoman for SPVQ.

However, Quebec is not alone in its mission to slow down motorists: neighborhood councils have also set up initiatives.

This is particularly the case for the Saint-Émile district council, which produced posters to raise awareness among drivers. These posters, placed in front of houses, already hint at their presence.

According to our initial information, yes, it is bearing fruit. Once the posters were placed in the sectors of rue Fréchette or Vénus, there really was a slowdown.said Manon Therrien, president of the Saint-Émile district council.

Ms Therrien also hopes the decline will continue in the coming years.

As I often say, this is long -term education and everyone can make a differencehe says.
