A man accused of repeated contact with his ex-wife has not convinced the court to release him, despite his offer to wear an anti-reconciliation bracelet.
This will be the first reason in Quebec where the use of the electronic bracelet is proposed, since the government announced this new measure.
Pierre-André Doré offered to wear an electronic bracelet while awaiting trial, to ensure that he would never approach the complainant again.
The Lévis resident, with a severe criminal past, has already violated several court orders by contacting the complainant.
The 52-year-old man had a relationship of 17 years with the complainant. Their relationship ended in 2012.
Last month, while a probation barred her from doing so, she again approached her ex -husband’s place of residence.
The complainant agrees
Hoping to regain her freedom while the trial was pending, Doré offered to wear an anti-reconciliation bracelet, a suggestion the complainant agreed to.
The accused even saw additional protection for him, in case the ex -wife came to accuse him wrongly.

A probation officer explained to the court that the device made it possible to determine the buffer zone.
When an individual enters this zone, an employee of a call center contacts the wearer to get him or her out of the zone, without saying where the person to be protected is. If the individual does not cooperate, the complainant will be notified, who is also equipped with the device.
Risk
According to Doré, wearing the electronic bracelet will also allow her to remember that she has conditions that must be respected, an argument the judge does not follow.
Judge Gilbert recalled the defendant’s behavior in disrespecting his obligations not to approach the victim seven times in the past.
