The Sûreté du Québec will take just a little over two weeks to clarify the murder of mafioso Bernard Cherfan committed at a restaurant full of customers on June 1 in Laval.
Britney Lewis, 25, of Pickering, appeared today in Ontario to be returned to Quebec to face justice. He should be charged with premeditated murder and conspiracy to murder.
Bernard Cherfan, known to police for his Lebanese organized crime activities, was shot in the head as he sat in an establishment on boulevard des Laurentides in the Vimont district.
The murder caused public opprobrium because the killer did not take into account the presence of customers, including some children, in the restaurant when he shot the victim.
Laval police then handed over responsibility for the investigation to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), as Cherfan was not only a notorious criminal, but also linked to hitman Frédérick Silva, recently convicted of three homicides.
The SQ
says more arrests may come. The operation took place as part of CENTAURE’s strategy, which is mandated to ensure continued pressure on organized crime, and thus actively combat armed violence in Quebec.
