According to a statement from the Northwest Territories Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the first bear was killed behind a tennis court near the Frame Lake Trail after repeatedly approaching children and of adults.

According to ministry communications officer Jessica Davey-Quantick, bears are not used to approaching inhabited and busy places, but it happens from time to time.

A bear approaching children or adults is cause for concern and the incident should not be taken lightly, especially when the animal does not have many means of escape without having contact with human being.
