The building is located at 206 King Street West, near Caroline Street. Firefighters entered the building, but had to turn back for safety because of the heat, flames and smoke, said their chief David Cunliffe.

So they fought the flames from the outside. Chief Cunliffe says the building partially collapsed due to extensive structural damage from the fire.

A restaurant in the neighboring building and a condominium complex were also damaged.

Firefighters advised area residents at some point to stay indoors and close windows because of the smoke.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. The Office of the Fire Marshal has been contacted.
