The information received by Saguenay shows that the ground movement could be even greater than the first assessment that was made this week.

According to this, pieces of land could collapse in the coming days and could take other residences with them.

This is a major event who is taken very seriously said the municipal authorities, during a press briefing held Saturday evening at the headquarters of the Saguenay Fire Department, on University Boulevard, in Chicoutimi.

At 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, the Quebec Ministry of Transport indicated in Saguenay that the ground was currently very friable and that conditions were similar to those experienced in Saint-Jean-Vianney in 1971. A major landslide then cost the lives of 31 people in the Shipshaw area.

Our people are alive and that’s the most important thing. We are doing everything we can to relocate.

A quote from Julie Dufour, Mayor of Saguenay

Those affected must recover the most personal belongings, while the authorities expect that the residences will not be accessible for several weeks or even months.

Firefighters are on site. A dike will be put in place on Sunday and additional streets will be closed. All those affected by the evacuation will be taken care of and no victim will spend the night outside, it was assured.
