Toronto dentist Amir Haydarian no longer faces criminal charges of sexual assault and sexual interference with minors, but his work will continue to be supervised pending his disciplinary hearing.
The Crown drops the 15 charges it had filed in 2020 against the dentist who practices in the Mount Pleasant area, ruling that there is no no reasonable prospect of conviction.
The prosecutor explained in court that there were serious doubts about the credibility of the main complainant.
These allegations significantly damaged my client’s reputation, not to mention their emotional impact.says Dr. Haydarian’s lawyer, Me Joseph Neuberger. He can now turn the page and regain some of his normal health and restore his reputation.
The dentist had continued his practice during the legal process, but he had to comply with certain restrictions. He therefore had to be supervised at all times and could not treat minors.
Still restrictions
The Royal College of Dentists of Ontario says the restrictions that were imposed on Dr. Haydarian will continue until the disciplinary process is complete.
These conditions of practice are rigorous and protect the publicsays the Order in a statement.
Dr. Haydarian will only be able to see adults as patients and his work will continue to be supervised, at his own expense, by an independent observer trained in the prevention of sexual abuse of patients.
The disciplinary process is to continue with a hearing in July.
