Toronto Mayor John Tory has once again condemned gun violence in his city in the aftermath of another series of shootings in the Greater Toronto Area where a man in his 20s died and two teenagers ended up in critical condition among other injuries.
Any gun violence in our city is unacceptable and the fact that there have been several shootings this weekend, including one involving two young boys, is extremely disturbing.said the mayor of Toronto on his Twitter account.
John Tory also reiterated his support for the police citing the need to further suppress the flow of illegal weapons into Canada. Another lever of struggle: the ongoing reforms of the Government of Canada on firearms, he mentioned.
” I will also continue to support the investments our city has made and all governments should be making in children and families by delivering programs that address the roots of gun violence. “
Around 2:40 p.m. Sunday, two teenagers, aged 15 and 16, were at the center of a shooting and both had to be taken to hospital in critical condition.
Witnesses said at least 15 shots were heard in the area near the intersection of Humber Boulevard and Alliance Avenue in Toronto.
Toronto police later reported a second shooting, this time near the intersection of Allen Road and Lawrence Avenue West, around 4:15 p.m. They found a man there with injuries Gunshot. The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition.
A young victim
A man in his 20s was killed at the corner of Caledonia Street and Lawrence Avenue, in a third shooting that occurred minutes later near the intersection of Caledonia Road and Lawrence Avenue West, around 4:25 p.m., according to Toronto police.
Officers located the victim with no vital signs, read a tweet from the officers. According to witnesses who contacted 9-1-1, several shots were fired during this incident.
Finally, a fourth shooting occurred in the evening near the intersection of McCowan Road and Milner Avenue in the Scarborough neighborhood of Toronto, police said.
When officers arrived, three men and one woman were found with gunshot wounds. The incident took place in a parking lot just north of Highway 401.
Two of those affected suffered life-threatening injuries. The condition of the third person injured was considered serious, while the fourth suffered minor injuries.
In all these cases, the police have not released information about potential suspects and are asking for the public’s help.
Toronto police plan to hold a news conference about the shootings Monday at 11:45 a.m.
