Former Rimouski massage therapist Patrick Chénard, convicted of sexual assault in January 2022, was released on June 15. He will remain so until the decision on his sentence which will be pronounced on July 15.
The Court of Appeal thus annuls a decision rendered in first instance on May 30, which ordered the immediate imprisonment of Patrick Chénard.
In his application to the Court of Appeal, the man from Rimouski asked for his release during the appeal or until the decision on the sentence at first instance. The second option was therefore chosen by the Court of Appeal.
Until then, the court imposes strict conditions of release on Mr. Chénard. In particular, he must refrain from practicing voluntary or remunerated massage therapy and kinesiology activities. He is also prohibited from communicating with the victims and from being within 100 meters of their places of residence or work.
The Crown prosecutor, Mr.e Normand Morneau-Deschênes, known as study the decision and possible appeals.
