Environment Canada continues to issue heat alerts for parts of southeastern Manitoba on Monday. Temperatures are expected to reach close to 30°C.
As of Sunday, parts of southern Manitoba had already broken heat records.
On Monday, heat warnings and severe thunderstorm watches concern:
- the Whiteshell, Lac du Bonnet and Pinawa;
- Northwest Angle and Sprague Provincial Forest;
- Steinbach, Saint-Adolphe, Emerson, Vita and Richer.
Environment Canada predicts, from Monday afternoon, a risk of thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain and hail in these regions.
” Conditions are conducive to the development of severe thunderstorms that can produce strong gusts, large hail and heavy rain. “
Temperatures are expected to drop overnight with lows between 14°C and 19°C.
Environment Canada invites the public to make sure to protect themselves against the negative effects of extreme heat on health.
Swelling of the hands, feet and ankles, skin rashes, cramps and loss of consciousness are symptoms of heatstroke.
Heatstroke can also start with a headache, high body temperature, dizziness and confusion.
