Independent Investigation Unit investigates shooting involving Winnipeg police

The Manitoba Independent Investigation Unit is investigating the circumstances that led Winnipeg police to shoot a man late Friday afternoon in the North End neighborhood.

The incident happened around 4:14 p.m. at the intersection of Salter Street and Mountain Avenue.

The officer was in his vehicle when a man armed with a knife aggressively approached the driver’s side door of the police vehicle. A confrontation took place, and the man was shotsays the Independent Investigation Unit in a press release.

The man died shortly after being transported to the Winnipeg Health Sciences Center hospital.
