The RCMP also thanks members of the public who followed the directions of first responders over the past few days while searching the area.

Police say the teenager was swimming at the beach in Barney near provincial park Buffalo Pound with four friends on Friday afternoon when strong winds carried him into deeper water.

A thorough search of the area was conducted throughout the weekend and into Monday.

It was previously reported that the teenager was between 15 and 17 years old.

The provincial park Buffalo Pound is approximately 50 kilometers northwest of Regina.
