The mother of the infant found dead in the Mont-Bleu district two years ago pleaded guilty to the two charges brought against her on Tuesday at the Gatineau courthouse.
The woman in her twenties has admitted her guilt to charges of infanticide and having made the body of her child disappear, only a few months old at the time.
She was sentenced to 870 days in prison for the first count and 730 days for the second count. In total, she will have to serve 1,600 days in detention, the equivalent of four and a half years in prison.
A publication ban prevents disclosure of the identity of the victim and the accused.
The discovery of the baby’s corpse took place on June 30, 2020, at 13 boulevard du Mont-Bleu in the Hull sector, in the early evening, by a citizen.
The police who had been dispatched to the scene quickly found that it was an obvious death. No resuscitation maneuver had been performed.
It was at the time the second homicide of the year on the territory of Gatineau.
