Following the hit and run that left one dead last Sunday, the suspected driver, a 25-year-old man, was arrested Monday at his south Vancouver home. A possible 63-year-old accomplice was also arrested. This is a member of the driver’s family.
According to the police, the driver had abandoned his car near the scene of the collision. Monday morning, the police found the vehicle which had traces of the collision.
In a hit-and-run, finding the vehicle is important, but identifying the person who was behind the wheel is another step and another challenge. In this case, we are convinced that we were able to quickly identify the driverexplains Sergeant Steve Addison.
The 24-year-old victim was walking near her home around 11:30 p.m. Sunday when a car hit her on the corner of West 4th Avenue near Arbutus Street in Vancouver. Police believe the pedestrian was trying to cross the street at the time of the collision. She died shortly after at the scene of the accident.
According to the police, the driver was speeding and did not stop after hitting the pedestrian. Police say several people who witnessed the collision remained at the scene to help the victim.
Steve Addison adds that it was information from the public that notably made it possible to carry out this operation. The victim’s family members are currently traveling from overseas to Vancouver.
Charges have not yet been laid and the investigation is ongoing.
