The father of 3 children killed by a driver was arrested hours before his death

Peel Regional Police confirmed Thursday morning that they sent officers to Edward Lake’s home on Sunday, the day before his death, and they had to use a Taser to subdue him.

The circumstances of the police intervention remain unclear because of the confidentiality of certain elements of the investigation into Edward Lake’s behavior on the day of his arrest.

Agent Patten nevertheless specifies that she received a call on June 19, 2022 to send police to Mr. Lake’s residence. The call, she said, was to investigate an altercation at home.

Although there is no indication that the call was directly related to mental health, officers were appropriately briefed on Mr Lake’s background and previous interactions with policecan we read.

The statement clarified that it was not appropriate to call the specialized mental health units, Crisis Outreach and Support Team (Crisis Intervention Team, free translation, editor’s note) and Mobile Crisis Rapid Response Team (the mobile emergency response service) given the nature of the call the police received before arriving at his home.

Police add that an altercation occurred between Mr Lake and the officers, which resulted in the use of a Taser and the intervention of paramedics at his home.

Edward Lake was charged with one count of assault at the scene and returned to the custody of paramedics, who transported him to hospital where he was treated before being released.

Officers notified Peel Region Victim Services of the incident and the Service’s contact information was provided to Mr. Lake.

Ms. Patten also said she was saddened by the tragic death of Mr. Lake because the tragic circumstances this family faced these last years.

Edward Lake’s wife, Jennifer Neville-Lake, announced Monday evening on Twitter the death of her husband, a day after Father’s Day.

Hundreds of messages of condolence continue to flow into his account and the sadness of his subscribers is now mixed with incomprehension since the intervention of the Peel Regional Police.

Daniel, Harrison and Milly Neville-Lake were killed along with their grandfather in a traffic accident in Vaughan in September 2015.

The driver, who had survived the collision, has already served his sentence for drunk driving. They were 9, 5 and 2 years old respectively. Gary Neville was 65 years old.

The grandmother and great-grandmother of the three children were seriously injured in the collision.

Marco Muzzo had pleaded guilty to multiple charges and medical-legal tests had shown that he was very drunk driving his car.

He was sentenced to 10 years in prison in February 2016 before being granted full parole in February 2021.
