Jon Uriarte begins his stage at the helm of Athletic as it should. The new president of the centennial rojiblanco club received the makila, in the form of a rojiblanca shirt with his surname and number 33 on the back, from the hands of the previous head of the club and with Iribar, a true living legend of the entity, and his rivals in the urns next door. Possibly the procession goes inside, but the image projected abroad after a few intense weeks of electoral struggle is clearly edifying.
The new head of the Ibaigane entity, the thirty-third in history, was able to experience something that his predecessors in office did not experience. The usual thing until now was that once the scrutiny of the vote for president had been made official, everyone would go their own way from Ibaigane. Not yesterday. Yesterday Athletic, at the initiative of the previous managers of the club and in the middle of San Mamés, organized a joint reception for the winner at the polls and his entire chapeau team.
Uriarte was entertained by Elizegi and Iribar and surrounded by both Arechabaleta and Barkala. The two frustrated candidates for the presidency of the Ibaigane entity not only endured until the end, but also thanked the members for the day spent and publicly offered their collaboration and support to the new president. As it should be, as it should have always been. Like real gentlemen.
Uriarte’s own speech also served to turn the page on the usual braids in any electoral process. Elizegi and his collaborators knew how to close their cycle at a public level like no one had done so far. The entire rojiblanca family, represented by yesterday, today and tomorrow of the same, came together at such an important moment. Awesome.
